A Texas senator says the backlog of veterans’ claims has surged on President Obama’s watch. KUT’s Nathan Bernier spoke with Gardner Selby of the Austin American- Statesman’s PolitiFact Texas about Sen. John Cornyn’s assertion that the backlog has doubled since Obama took office.
There’s a wrinkle: The definition of “backlogged claim” changed after Obama became president. It went from what was previously more than 180 days as a standard to the lower threshold. Even so, there’s been a nearly 280 percent increase in backlogged claims since the change.
