Board to Vote on Same-Sex Benefits
In Pflugerville tonight, a school board meeting is expected to draw a crowd. The district will vote on its recently announced policy of extending health benefits to domestic partners including same-sex couples.
The plan faced opposition after it was announced, and at least one board member has said he’ll vote against the plan this time.
A group called Texas Values says in a statement that it will bring hundreds of opponent to the tonight’s meeting. The group also says it has filed a brief with the attorney general’s office.
Meanwhile, the Pflugerville Educators Association has posted an online petition, with almost 1,000 signers, supporting domestic partnership benefits.
The ISD board will meet privately before the public meeting at 7 in the Pflugerville High School cafeteria.
