Water and Population Fact Checking

State Sen. Kirk Watson says the Texas’ population will double in 50 years or so, while the state will have about the same amount of water. KUT’s Emily Donahue spoke with Gardner Selby of the Austin American-Statesman’s PolitiFact Texas about Watson’s argument for fully funding the State Water Plan.
Watson relied on information that’s in the water plan, the latest version of it. But when we looked at the plan, it doesn’t say precisely when there is going to be a doubling. Instead, the plan projects an 82 percent population increase between 2010 and 2060. And, far as we can tell, nobody in state government has lately made a jab at when the population will double.
