The Golden Record Revisited: Defining Intelligence
Voyager is on the cusp of exiting our solar system and entering the great unknown; along with it The Golden Record! Poet Tomas Morin and Elena Passarello are in the process of editing an anthology on the Voyager mission and assembling poetry, fiction, non-fiction and plays that all respond to the content of this record and serve to illustrate the intelligence and diversity of life on Earth.
KUT had the pleasure of hosting Tomas and Elena for KUT’s Views and Brews at the Cactus Cafe to discuss the story of The Golden Record, from it’s conception to completion, and what impact this time capsule continues to have on the way we see ourselves in the universe. We also had a chance to listen to readings of their work in progress and talk about how the different genres are engaging with a Golden Record that contained only a small collection of music, pictures, and sounds to represent all of humanity.
