The New KUT 90.5 and KUTX 98.9 Launch Jan. 2
KXBT 98.9 to Feature Holiday Music Mix until launch of the KUTX Austin Music Experience
AUSTIN, Texas – Nov. 30, 2012— KUT 90.5, a full-time news and information broadcast service, and KUTX 98.9, the Austin Music Experience, will launch on Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2013.
The University of Texas at Austin, on behalf of KUT, completed its purchase of KXBT 98.9 today. The purchase was approved by The University of Texas Board of Regents in August.
Between now and the Jan. 2 launch of the new formats, KXBT 98.9 will broadcast a KUT-curated, Austin-centric holiday mix of music, while KUT 90.5 will continue to air a combination of music, news and information programming.
As announced in August, KUTX 98.9, will operate as a noncommercial public radio station broadcasting full-time music programming for audiences seeking the Austin music experience. KUT 90.5 will become a full-time news and information station focused on delivering up-to-the-minute news and live discussion throughout the day.
The music programs and hosts listeners enjoy on KUT 90.5 — as well as new music programming reflecting the Austin Music Experience — will be featured on KUTX 98.9, starting Jan. 2. Programming will include interviews, in-studio performances, the music journalism program “Texas Music Matters” and local arts-related news and commentary. Additionally, the all-music station will provide a high-profile platform for promoting and sharing content from the new KUT Public Media Studios’ Performance Studio 1A and the KUT-operated Cactus Cafe.
The all-news KUT 90.5 programming schedule was announced in October and is available online.
