The Hex Rally Will Go On Tonight

November 19, 2012 4:26 pm by: Matt Largey

UT will hold its annual Hex Rally tonight even though it’s not playing Texas A&M in football anymore.

The rally has been held every year since 1941, to put a curse on A&M ahead of the game. The rivalry was effectively ended when A&M left the Big 12 this year.

The target of the hex this year will be Texas Christian University. UT plays TCU on Thanksgiving Day.

“There will be some extra surprises that the Hex Rally wouldn’t normally have,” said Allyson Copeland with the Texas Exes Spirit and Traditions Council, which puts on the rally. “But we’re still keeping the tradition of the red candles. I know there’s been a lot of questions about whether we’re switching to purple. We’re keeping the hex as it’s been since 1941.”

The rally will be held, as usual, on the South Mall on campus starting at 8 p.m.
