Preview KUT’s all-news schedule this week

November 6, 2012 4:15 am by: Angela Maldonado

A preview of the forthcoming all-news format Monday through Wednesday, Nov. 5-7.

On Tuesday, Nov. 6, KUT News reporters will be out in the field providing live coverage of local election developments during KUT’s regularly scheduled newscasts at noon, 4 p.m., 5 p.m. and 6 p.m., and with two 10-minute election news reports every hour from 7 to 11 p.m. Reporters will be updating www.kutnews.org with updates throughout election day.

During the three-day preview of its forthcoming all-news format KUT 90.5 will extend “Morning Edition” by one hour to 10 a.m., followed by “Tell Me More,” “The Takeaway,” “World Have Your Say,” “Talk of the Nation,” “The World,” “All Things Considered,” “Marketplace” and “Fresh Air.”

KUT will return to its regularly scheduled music programming at 8 p.m. Monday and Wednesday night, and will return to its regular news, information and music schedule on Thursday, Nov. 8. The all-news KUT 90.5 will launch in early January, along with KUTX 98.9, the all-music station.

In building the all-news program schedule KUT followed these guiding principles:

  • Establish KUT’s all-news frequency, 90.5, as a source of news throughout the day by featuring live programs with deep editorial resources;
  • Balance established programs with newer programs that may become the future voices of public radio; and
  • Create partnerships with program producers to bring the creative and intellectual resources of KUT, The University of Texas at Austin and Central Texas into the programs.
