The UT Athletics Department has announced new inductees into the Longhorns Hall of Honor. Offensive coordinator Major Applewhite is among them. From 1998 to 2001 Applewhite was a UT quarterback and set eight school records. Coach Mack Brown says Applewhite’s career remains closely knit to his own.

“I think you can go back to so many great moments for Major as a player,” Brown said. “None better than the performance he had against Washington in the Holiday Bowl out there at the end — threw for 497 yards or something, he’s in their Hall of Fame. Major’s a star, he’s got it written all over him. And he’ll be a head coach one of these days, and he’ll be a great one. We’re lucky to have him.”

Brown says the honor won’t be a distraction from Saturday’s 11 a.m. game against Iowa State. The Longhorns are 7-2.
