The Texas economy continues to chug along. The state added 36,600 jobs in October.
The state’s unemployment rate dropped to 6.6 percent in October. The Texas Workforce Commission says the private sector added more than 24,000 jobs last month. Governments added more than 12,000 jobs too. The state’s construction sector had a record-high boost with the addition of 13,600 jobs.
“Well, Texas is growing. We’ve seen steady growth in the past few months,” said Lisa Givens, a spokeswoman with the Workforce Commission. “We know that our economy thrives when employers come to our state and build businesses here, so part of that can be seen in construction growth.”
Austin’s unemployment rate held steady at 5.3 percent, the lowest level since December 2008. The Austin, Round Rock and San Marcos region added more than 6,000 new jobs.
