Recently, Matt McCloskey paid a visit to KUT to play in Studio 1A, and even from the few songs he shared, it was easy to connect a great deal of emotion to the performance. There is no doubt that it’s heart and soul.
McCloskey made his official debut with his 2009 release, These Times Won’t Last. While he was still relatively new to the local music scene, his powerful songwriting abilities were shining through. Clearly, he was no stranger to exploring the more unfortunate affairs of the heart. But he also made it clear that beyond the pain, hope was not too far behind. On his forthcoming EP, The Hard Rains – a mix of Americana, country, and even a bit of classic rock - McCloskey delves further into the lifelong complications of what it means to face the truth, and the journey to get there.
McCloskey is having an EP release show for The Hard Rains on Wednesday night at the Cactus Cafe, W. 24th and Guadalupe, in the Texas Union. Songwriter Ellen O’Meara starts the evening out. Doors open at 8 p.m., and the music begins at 8:30 p.m. Recommended.
