‘Tis true, we shine as the Live Music Capital. No doubt about it. We have more than our share of venues, bands and music shops. We’re luckier than most places. Yet there remain several hidden treasures and little-known nooks where people gather to make and share music. Enter KUT’s Austin Music Map. It serves as the perfect gateway to new musical discoveries.
The Austin Music Map is both a public media experiment and an exciting sonic adventure, exploring Austin’s very diverse musical cultures. The project produces fascinating audio and visual portraits of all the different spaces, non-traditional venues and musical personalities that you may not even know about. From dive bars to churches, backyards to community centers, you’ll find there’s a lot more going on in Austin than you realized, and the Austin Music Map does a great job of documenting these extraordinary musical experiences.
The Austin Music Map is having its official launch party, complete with a brand new website, Saturday night at The ND, located at E. 5th and Brushy St. This is going to be one spectacular evening with performances by Nicknack, Susan Torres and The Squeezebox Mafia, The Minor Mishap Marching Band and the White Ghost Shivers. Artists specializing in a wide assortment of genres. Don’t miss out. Doors open early at 6:30 p.m., and the music begins at 7 p.m. Recommended.
