Though it’s only November, the springtime music conference that takes over Austin each year, South by Southwest, is already beginning to take shape.  Today, organizers released the initial lineup.

Think of this as the official showcase invite list. Standouts include Alt-J, the recent winner of Britain’s Mercury Prize, as well as the Klaxons and iconic ’60s pop rockers the Zombies. The British invasion is heavily offset by a local contingent, including Crooks, the Black and White Years, Sahara Smith, Shakey Graves, Colin Gilmore, Quiet Company “and virtually every other Austin band,” or at least that was the complaint from the Houston Press this afternoon. Their fair city landed just two artists, the Linus Pauling Quartet and Young Von.

No need to fret yet.  Today’s list of 200 or so bands will grow more than tenfold by the time SXSW music gets underway on March 12.
