Cap Metro Drivers Authorize a Strike

November 9, 2012 5:34 pm by: Matt Largey

The head of Capital Metro’s bus drivers’ union says he could call a strike within the next week.

Union members voted yesterday to authorize a strike. That comes just as the city prepares for more than 100,000 visitors for next weekend’s Formula One race. Transportation plans for race events depend on Cap Metro buses and drivers.

Cap Metro spokesman Dan Dawson said the agency does have a backup plan in case of a strike.

“Capital Metro has made a commitment to providing additional service for F1, and we do plan to honor that commitment,” Dawson said.

The union authorized the strike amid negotiations with McDonald Transit, the contractor that operates Cap Metro’s regular bus routes.
