Cheers to you and yours on this Thanksgiving Day! I realize that you might be taking some time off from shows because you’re spending time with friends and family. But I would like to make a recommendation for this weekend, something that will make a lovely holiday wrap-up (or a grand way to escape the utter lunacy that is known as “Black Friday”…more like “Blech Friday”…shudder.)
You’ll have not one, but two opportunities to absorb this awesomeness. Alejandro Escovedo has two performances lined up at The Continental Club, 1315 S. Congress Ave. He’ll play a set at midnight on both nights. Friday night will feature country and Southern soul-monger Mike Barfield as the opener at 10 p.m., and Saturday night’s opener is dynamic blues-fuzz-rock duo The Ghost Wolves, also at 10 p.m.
It’s no surprise that we’ve got a good mix of genres here. Escovedo covers all this ground and more on several of his solo albums, including punk rock, Latin jazz, alt.-country and Americana. He’s practically done it all.
These will surely be great performances by one and all. Get there at 8:30 or 9 p.m. both nights, as the room will get crowded very quickly. Recommended.
And, as your Austin Music Minute maven here at KUT Austin, I’d like to say thank you for all of the great music you send my way. I’m honored and privileged to share it. Cheers.
