Ah, it’s that special time of year again! I’m all a-flutter. Your Austin Music Minute maven does tend to be a fan of the macabre (and that includes a great admiration of another hostess with the mostess), so Halloween time is a fun time, indeed. It’s a giddiness that calls to mind the voice of one Paul Frees intoning, “There’s no turning back now…” (Cue evil laughter and thunder cracks.)

Some All Hallow’s Eve celebrations in our fair city are getting an early start this weekend (Halloween arrives on Wednesday). And those ghastly fiends of frivolous fright, The White Ghost Shivers, are jumping right in the lead with their annual White Ghost Shivers Ball, Saturday night at the Beauty Ballroom, 2015 E. Riverside Dr. The theme this year: Apocaliptico Dia de los Muertos. So imagine, if you will, un fiesta spectacular with all the sugar skulls you can handle, and a good jab at all theories apocalyptic. Plummeting into oblivion never felt so good!

This year’s jaunt into the End of Days features performances by the wild and raucous Clem & Clyde’s Whiskey Business, the gleeful mayhem that is The Minor Mishap Marching Band, and, of course, The White Ghost Shivers. Plus, there’ll be face-painting galore, plenty of photo booth action, and an End of Days Market Square with vintage items and work by local artists for sale.

A toast to you, my Shivers. Let the apocalyptic party-time begin.
