In this week’s Politifact Texas check-in, KUT’s Emily Donahue gets the rundown from the Austin American-Statesman’s Gardner Selby on two claims made about Texas Democrats.
First, State Rep. Joaquin Castro, speaking at the recent Texas Tribune Festival here in Austin, said, “We are the state that has now gone the longest without electing a Democrat statewide.” He pointed out it’s been since 1994 that that happened. The San Antonio Democrat is now seeking a U.S. House seat.
After that claim, Texas Republican Rep. Tan Parker reacted on Twitter, writing “Texas Ds also shut out of statewide office longer than Republicans in all 50 states, giving them the nation’s longest losing streak.”
