No Indictments Over Open Meetings Law
Some members of the Austin City Council will avoid prosecution for alleged violations of open meetings laws.
Today the Travis County Attorney’s Office said it has finished its investigation into a nearly two-year-old complaint that council members deliberated among themselves in ways that may violate government transparency laws.
Mayor Lee Leffingwell, Mayor Pro Tem Sheryl Cole and four other present council members all agreed to education for themselves and their staffs on open meeting and open records laws, and promised to abide by open government laws.
The agreements do allow the county attorney to prosecute the council members if they do not comply.
