It’s Friday. If you haven’t already made plans, you’re probably scrambling to make some. But before you run off and hit the town, take a moment, and consider for a second letting music do the hitting for you. Miami/NYC-based DJ and producer Michna knows a thing or two about nights out, so let him be your guide on a Friday night in.

Adrian Michna spent his childhood splitting time between Miami and NYC. He began his nascent musical career DJing parties and playing–of all instruments–trombone in New York ska groups. In the mid-90s Michna helped co-found Miami’s Secret Frequency Crew. The DJ collective had an underground hit with the song “Miami Eyes.” Michna also found he had a knack for producing, working with artists like Diplo and Bonde do Rolê. In 2008 Michna struck out on his own with his debut full-length Magic Monday.

Four years later, and Michna has a new record out called Moving Mountains. The four-track EP is atmospheric to say the least. But it also has a musicality that’s sometimes hard to find in electronic music (at least for new listeners to the genre). Today’s song of the day “Wanted Exotic” has movement. It’s exuberant. The mechanical rhythm and the klaxon-like synths conjure imagery of striking out after sundown for a night out in the big city. Who needs to go out when you have Michna?
