F1 Adds Music Festival to Race Weekend

F1 organizers announced some of the musical acts that will perform on one of the five free stages during Fan Fest 2012. Officials from the Circuit of the Americas told members of the Austin Music Commission the festival – a mix of free and paid events – will spotlight local and regional acts including Fastball, Bob Schneider, and The Bright Light Social Hour.

Ridge Rees is the events coordinator for Circuit of the Americas. He says that the weekend-long festival will celebrate the inaugural races, but also highlight Austin’s signature music scene.

“We do want to promote it as a music festival. Being the live music capital of the world, we’d be crazy not to with all of these international visitors,” Rees says. “They hear a few things about Austin; they hear it’s a good place to live. But after that, they hear we’ve got great entertainment. And that’s what they’re going to expect when they come here.”

Aerosmith is set to open as the headlining act at the Frank Erwin Center on Nov. 16. Other big-name performers include Flo Rida and Enrique Iglesias. Organizers say more performers will be announced in the coming weeks.
