Buy an Electric Bike, Get a Rebate

October 23, 2012 5:27 pm by: Nathan Bernier

Austin Energy is encouraging you to buy an electric bike. The public utility is offering rebates of between $50 and $300 on electric mopeds, scooters, bicycles and Segways.

The incentive program follows a rate increase by Austin Energy this year. But spokesman Carlos Cordova says this program is designed to help customers.

“We provide rebates for several programs that help reduce customers’ energy costs, and this is just one of them,” Cordova said.

The amount of the rebate depends on the value of the electric bike but generally works out to about a 10 percent savings. Electric cars also are eligible for rebates. You have to buy from an authorized dealer, and you can find out more here.
