The Austin Music Minute maven has no shame when it comes to favorite tunes. It’s an obsessive thing, on the verge of embarrassing, but I’m beyond caring about that. However, at the risk of embarrassing local band Tacks, the Boy Disaster, I gladly divulge the following information: I had the track “Frozen Feet” on repeat for months on end. Never got tired of it. I still haven’t. I was pretty much quite fond of all the songs on their 2006 debut release, Oh, Beatrice, and the magical “Frozen Feet” was usually my track of choice during the former time slot for The Laurie Show a few years back, late Friday nights.
Now we cut to the present, and Tacks fans like myself eagerly anticipate new music from the band. In their own words (on Facebook, anyway), it was time for “emerging from hibernation” and they booked several days at Premium Recording to begin work on their next album. They’ve also spent quite a bit of time recording at other studio spaces (and bedrooms with great acoustics) to get everything down just right. It’s very close to completion, so hopefully we’ll see a new release very soon.
In the meantime, chances are good you’ll get a sneak peak at what’s to come when Tacks, the Boy Disaster performs Friday night at the Beauty Ballroom, 2015 E. Riverside Dr. And I agree very much with my friend and colleague, KOOP Radio‘s Around The Town Sounds co-host Deidre Gott, that this is a bill made in heaven, with Belaire, Good Field, and songwriter Jason Chronis‘ side project JC & Co. Doors open at 9 p.m., and the show starts at 10 p.m. This one comes highly recommended.
