Expect an extra-busy, bustling Downtown Austin this weekend. The Pecan Street Festival will be underway, taking over 6th St. with all manner of cool sights and sounds. The fest is a free, bi-annual juried arts and crafts event held in the heart of the city, featuring artisans from all across the country.

Of course, you know that my attention zooms in on the abundance of live music at the fest by local and touring bands on three different stages. There are some great local bands are on the schedule, by the way, including Oh No Oh My, The Preservation, Wiretree, Scorpion Child, Mobley, Black Tabs, Residual Kid, East Cameron Folkcore, Guns of Navarone, Edison Chair, Slash Future, O Conqueror, The Harvest Thieves and so many more. Lots to choose from, and perfect for the music fan who isn’t always able to check out shows late at night. Bring the whole family with you. Check the Pecan Street Festival website for performance schedules.

The fest takes place on Saturday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Sunday, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Keep in mind that it’s wise to arrive early, or at least prepare for a big turnout – the festival attracts more than 300,000 people to the area. There’ll be a bit of congestion, but it’ll be worth your while to check out the goings-on. Recommended.
