Longhorns to Challenge Reigning Champions

September 24, 2012 5:01 pm by: Kimberly Johnson

The Texas Longhorns will play their first Big 12 game of the season this week against Oklahoma State University. The Cowboys have beaten UT the last two years and are the reigning conference champions.

Oklahoma State is struggling to maintain consistency on offense after losing several top players to graduation and the NFL, but Longhorns Head Coach Mack Brown says OSU is still a very good team.

“Oklahoma State will be the best team we’ve played to this point. The stakes are higher,” Brown says. “Every week is like a playoff because we don’t have a conference championship game. You can’t afford to lose during the year and have a chance to win at the end.”

Texas continues to climb in national polls. The team, now ranked 12th, is beginning to receive some attention as so-called dark horse for the national championship.

The game against Oklahoma State kicks off at 6:50 p.m. Saturday night on FOX.
