Gilberto Hinojosa, chairman of the Texas Democratic Party, envisions Texas voters making it “mathematically impossible for Republicans to elect a president.” KUT’s Ben Philpott spoke with Gardner Selby of the Austin American-Statesman’s PolitiFact Texas about Hinojosa’s comments at the Democratic National Convention that if Texas voted for a Democratic presidential nominee, the combination of its electoral votes with those of California and New York would seal the deal for the Democrat.
Two party officials each told us his point is that if a Democratic nominee carries each of those three big states, it becomes nigh impossible for a Republican to prevail; significantly, so long, of course, as the other states keep leaning D or R as they seem to be leaning right now.
