Back in June, I was asked by my friends at Transistor Six to emcee a show they put together at the Beauty Ballroom with What Made Milwaukee Famous and The Happen-Ins. Of course, I said yes; I was excited to see them both. But I admit my curiosity got the best of me with the WMMF crew.

Although I knew songwriter and vocalist Michael Kingcaid and bassist John Farmer were either working on other projects or doing solo shows, I hadn’t seen WMMF perform in quite some time. Their last album, What Doesn’t Kill Us, was released in 2008. Following a back-breaking tour and some rather stressful times, they decided to take a break – one that lasted four years. Fans were anxious. Was there going to be a new album?

Their fantastic performance at the Beauty Ballroom reassured the crowd that night that more great music on the way. And, thanks to a successful Kickstarter campaign, things should be good to go with their upcoming album, You Can’t Fall Off the Floor, set for release hopefully before the end of this summer.

Be sure to catch WMMF at their show Thursday night at The Parish, 214 E. 6th St. The bill features performances by Brass Bed, Burgess Meredith and O Conqueror. Doors open at 8 p.m. Recommended.
