The Cactus Cafe was overflowing with people and excitement as KUT’s Views and Brews explored the life and work of Edith Piaf in July. Poet and historian Bette Oliver discussed Piaf’s life; from her impoverished childhood raised in a Paris brothel by her grandmother, to her turbulent career as a street singer and her ultimate legacy as the voice which embodied the idea of French resilience and passion in the wake of the destruction caused by WWII. The evening was made even more beautiful by the voice of Silvie Rider Young singing the music of Piaf and accompanied by pianist Red Young and bassist Daniel Durham.

We hope you enjoy listening back to the evening. Click on the player at the top of this post, and be sure to check out Silvie’s rendition of “La Vie en Rose” performed live at the Cactus Cafe.
