I, your humble Austin Music Minute maven, am the dork who will play a song on repeat, over and over, if I’m hooked. That’s the kind of dorking-out that I do. And such was the case with “Everybody’s Got Soul” by local band Uncle Lucius.

The track, from their 2009 release Pick Your Head Up, encompasses the sort of vibe I get with their music  – rock ‘n’ roll and what they’ve dubbed “Southern outlaw soul,” with big doses of R&B, blues, and country. (I envisioned Waylon Jennings and Sly & The Family Stone hanging out at the same party and jamming together.) And vocalist and lead guitarist Kevin Galloway can belt it out like nobody’s business.

Uncle Lucius is about to release a new album, And You Are Me, this Tuesday, with a Waterloo Records instore performance that afternoon at 5 p.m. But don’t forget their release show this Saturday night at Antone’s, 213 W. 5th St. This is one killer triple bill by the way, with dynamic rock duo Not In the Face! and hardcore roots ramblers Whiskey Shivers starting the evening out. Doors open at 8 p.m. This is gonna be a rowdy one, folks. And good for you. Recommended.
