Austin-based trio The Love Leighs specializes in classic jazz, blues and twang styles, all delivered with what they describe as “more than a little sass.” It’s a perfect mix with an old-timey, Vaudevillian feel, like a combination of the heartache and longing of Billie Holiday but with the dark, theatrical flourishes of Tom Waits. The line-up features vocalist Raina Leigh Krause and clarinetist Jessica Leigh Graves are both mistresses of the ukulele, accompanied by funk/blues guitarist Jimmie Dreams.
The Love Leighs continue their Tuesday night Hotel Vegas residency show this week with two special guests: Songwriter and vocalist Scott Collins, featured on today’s Austin Music Minute, who performs solo sets and gigs with his new band, Southbound Drive, as well as running his own publishing company, Side Show Paradise Records; and funk, R&B and soul multi-instrumentalist D Madness, who’s performed alongside numerous Austin artists and with musicians around the world.
