I’ve seen The Austin Steamers work up the two-stepping crowds at The White Horse before, and if ever there was a band to really rock – of all things – an acoustic show, this band is a heavy contender. There are two key ingredients that are essential their live shows: 1.) Crazy-good finger-picking, sometimes reeling into lightning speeds, and 2.) Plenty of good vocal harmonies bouncing round.
This local four-piece delivers some of the best performances of original and traditional music done right with guitar, banjo, mandolin and stand-up bass. And while each member brings more than enough talent to launch into a bunch of solo sets to blow your mind, it’s the solid collaboration of these individuals that brings extraordinary magic to the performance.
Don’t miss out on the fun. You can see The Austin Steamers play tonight at the Cactus Cafe, at 24th and Guadalupe in the Texas Union, on the UT campus. Country/bluegrass acoustic duo Hem and Haw starts the show. Doors open at 8 p.m. and the music begins at 8:30 p.m. Recommended.
