New Helicopter on the Way for Austin Police

The Austin Police Department will get a new helicopter. The Austin City Council today unanimously approved the purchase of a $2.6 million 2012 Eurocopter.

APD will spend another $1 million to outfit it with policing accessories. And you can add to that about $200,000 a year in operating costs.

The new helicopter should be fully outfitted and ready to use in about a year.
