One indirect effect of the Affordable Care Act is that it could mean more law firms and lawyers popping up in Central Texas. KUT’s Andy Uhler spoke with Vicky Garza of the Austin Business Journal about this influx of health lawyers.

I spoke with the chairwoman elect of the health section of the state bar of Texas, and she said that law firms here are going to be expanding their health law section. And there’s also going to be more out-of-state firms moving to Texas trying to get a foothold in the area.

Interestingly, Garza says, they’re moving here to Austin as opposed to Dallas or Houston.

There’s a law firm that recently moved here, and they have their headquarters in Nashville. And they decided of all places in Texas, they wanted to come to Austin, and that’s because of the diverse spectrum of health care companies that we have here. It’s not just hospitals and clinics that we have here, but also biotech and medical device companies.
