August 14, 2012 4:53 pm by: Nathan Bernier

Dell tops the list of the largest local companies again, a spot it has held for more than two decades.

The Austin Business Journal has published its list of the highest-grossing firms in the Austin area. Dell pulled in $62 billion in revenue in the last fiscal year. Second place Whole Foods racked up $10 billion in revenue. Freescale Semiconductor, National Instruments and Hanger Orthopedic rounded out the top five.

Michael Dell, by the way, is also the highest-paid CEO in Austin, according to the Business Journal. He earned more than $16 million last year.

This is incorrect. Dell does not top Austin companies. How soon we forget that Dell (once based in Austin) attempted and failed to get tax breaks when they were based in Austin. Dell got concessions from another city and moved across the border to Round Rock. The Austin-area may benefit from having Dell in the neighborhood, but remember they bailed on Austin.
