Conference: Promoting Tolerance: Solutions for Change

The Austin Committee on Teaching About the United Nations is hosting a conference, “Promoting Tolerance: Solutions for Change,” at the Joe C. Thompson Center on the campus of The University of Texas at Austin on September 22, 2012, 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
This conference will provide an opportunity for educators, community members, and university students to gain knowledge of local and global trends and solutions in an effort to promote tolerance. Throughout this day, there will be keynotes, panelists, breakouts, and an info fair that will explore social, educational, and legal solutions for change.
Keynote speakers include Maher Nasser, Acting Head of the Department of Public Information at the United Nations, and Cari Guittard, Senior Associate with Global Strategic Partners.
Registration for the conference is $50 with a special rate of $25 for students. The registration fee includes a box lunch IF registration is received before September 10, 2012. Online registration is at www.teachun.org.
The Joe C. Thompson Conference center is located at 2405 Dedman on The University of Texas at Austin campus.
The Committee on Teaching About the United Nations (CTAUN) was founded in 1996 and beginning in 1999 has held annual conferences at the United Nations Headquarters in New York City. Under the leadership of a local steering committee, additional conferences have been offered in other cities in the U. S. including Atlanta, Georgia, Indianapolis, Indiana and Austin, Texas. The first conference was held in Austin in 2011.
The CTAUN Austin Steering Committee includes representatives from The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, Global Austin, Colleges of Liberal Arts and Education at The University of Texas at Austin, American Association of University Women, Austin Independent School District, Central Texas Model United Nations at The University of Texas at Austin, Hemispheres, Northwest Austin Rotary Club and United Nations Association Austin.
