Texas Music Matters presents a documentary on the first recordings by The Flatlanders–recently rediscovered after 40 years, gathering dust in a bedroom closet in North Texas. These historic tapes, recorded in Tommy Allsup’s Odessa studios in 1972– are considered by some to be the first “alternative country” recordings in the history of American music. Join Jimmie Dale Gilmore, Joe Ely and Butch Hancock for the incredible story of The Odessa Tapes– a world premiere on Texas Music Matters, Friday at noon and again Friday night at 11 on KUT 90.5. The Odessa Tapes will be released to the public on August 28.
