Campbell Pulls Off SD-25 Upset Against Wentworth

While GOP Senate nominee Ted Cruz took the upset spotlight statewide last night, here in Central Texas another Tea Party favorite – this one with little notoriety and little money – clobbered a long-time incumbent.

Donna Campbell defeated State Senator Jeff Wentworth by a 2 to 1 margin in the Senate District 25 Republican runoff. A race that, like the Cruz campaign for Senate, focused on spending cuts and individual liberties.

“Our message resonated with our district,” Campbell said, “and they were tired of politics as usual. And they got out and they voted. With a resounding win tonight they showed that they do want conservative representation -they do want limited government.”

Campbell will face Democrat John Courage in the general election. Courage ran for Congress in 2002 and 2006 – never getting more than 25 percent of the vote.
