With New Designation, Clinic Looks to Expand

July 19, 2012 4:58 pm by: Andrew Uhler

People’s Community Clinic is asking the city of Austin to add $2 million to November’s bond election package to fund an expansion.

Clinic officials say they’re hoping to build a new primary care facility in East Austin. CEO Regina Rogoff says the clinic just recently learned that it has been designated a Federally Qualified Health Center – which comes with a two-year grant worth $650,000.

“We’ve needed more space,” Rogoff said. “We know that there is a need for more service in the community. But without that designation, we didn’t have the ability to provide more services.”

Even if the city granted PCC the $2 million as part of the city’s proposed $400 million bond package, the clinic still would need to raise an additional $10 million to build the new facility.
