I’ve raved about them before. Make way for the dirty blues-rock sounds of local trio The Black Owl Society.
Featuring drummer Charlie Jones, guitarist Nate Boff, and bassist/lead vocalist Buffalo, The Black Owl Society throws down a pretty mean roots jam, more toward the darker end of the twelve-bar boogie/rock ‘n’ roll spectrum, leaning a bit more on the rock side but chock full of grimy, gritty blues riffs. While there’s no doubt they get a lot of inspiration from Texas-style blues, their influences are a little broader and heavier. Collectively, the trio has an impressive resume, including Buffalo’s experience as an original member of Native American family band Indigenous.
There’s a good chance you’ve caught The Black Owl Society at Antone’s shows, and throughout July, they’ve gigged quite a bit at the Hole In the Wall, 2538 Guadalupe. That’s where you can see them play Wednesday night (not tonight, as I mistakenly announced on today’s Austin Music Minute), along with Thee Unseen Eye and Slitherbomb. The music gets underway at 10 p.m. Recommended.
