Romney Booed by Texas NAACP

July 11, 2012 5:22 pm by: Andrew Uhler

Presidential candidate Mitt Romney addressed members of the NAACP today in Houston.

“I’m running for president, because I know that my policies and vision will help millions of middle class Americans of all races, will lift people from poverty and will help prevent people from becoming poor in the first place,” Romney said.

Romney told the predominantly black audience that they had been let down by the Obama administration. He also singled out the Affordable Care Act.

“If our goal is jobs, we have to stop spending over a trillion dollars more than we take in every year,” Romney said. “And so to do that, I’m going to eliminate every non-essential, expensive program I can find. That includes Obamacare. And I’m going to work to reform and save…”

Boos from the crowd interrupted his speech and lasted for about 15 seconds. Romney later told reporters that he wasn’t surprised by the reaction.

Vice President Joe Biden will speak to the NAACP in Houston tomorrow.
