If you’ve seen the school supply displays already in stores, you know summer vacation time is about half over. But you’ve still got a few weeks to get some good summer reading in. If you’re looking for some fluffy or light beach reading, Austin author Jeff Abbott’s latest thriller, The Last Minute, may not be the best choice, but if you’re looking for an action-packed page-turner, it might be right up your alley.

Abbott continues the story of CIA agent Sam Capra he started in the novel Adrenaline, when Sam’s pregnant wife and fellow CIA agent disappears right after his office building blows up. Abbott told KUT’s Jennifer Stayton the action in The Last Minute centers on a pretty primal quest.

He is determined to find his child. The people who have his child, the bad guys, offer him his child back if he will commit a nearly impossible crime: Find the one person in the world who can bring down the crime ring and kill them in cold blood before they can turn over evidence to the CIA.
