I’ve probably had way too much fun with this, but…that’s the point, really. I’m a fan of local trio Mrs. Glass.

The frontman/vocalist actually goes by “Mrs. Glass,” which is awesome, because he’s hardly a “Mrs.” He’s originally from Iowa, hitchhiked to New Orleans when he was a teenager, then left after Hurricane Katrina and moved to Austin. He met bassist Ivan Evangelista and drummer Ian Fry at a gig at the Hole In the Wall last year. According to their story, the three musicians started playing together even before having a conversation with one another.

I have my own story about Mrs. Glass, of course. On one occasion, I was the big mouth in the crowd addressing the frontman with ridiculous lines like, “Oooo, where’s your husband, missus?!” But the gents were good sports about it, and obviously too immersed in some solid jams to notice much. They specialize in heavy-duty blues rock, kept gritty, dirty and rough around the edges.

It’s a perfect match for The White Horse, 500 Comal St, which is where Mrs. Glass has a weekly residency on Tuesday nights at midnight. Starting out the evening is Ramsay Midwood at 10 p.m. Recommended.
