Group Sues City Over Access to Documents

July 17, 2012 5:22 pm by: Andrew Uhler

The city of Austin is being sued over claims that it’s not following open records laws.

The lawsuit from the Texas Civil Rights Project says the city didn’t provide all the documents the group requested relating to the fatal shooting of Ahmede Bradley by an Austin police officer in April.

“We know that there are more documents that exist, videotapes for example, that the city has not released publicly,” said Jim Harrington, the group’s director. “We think it’s a very important matter of principle, with respect to the city, that we make them comply with the law.”

Ahmed Bradley was killed April 5 by APD Officer Eric Copeland after Copeland pulled Bradley over in a traffic stop, Bradley ran away, Copeland chased him and a fight ensued.
