Hey there, Fourth of July party people. By now you’ve got some grills going, and there may be swimming involved as well – the way a lot of us celebrate Independence Day. But I’d like to add something to all the summertime fun, if I may. Today’s Austin Music Minute offers a few live music show suggestions that should make your Fourth even more awesome:
-Major musical tributes goin’ down at the 4th of July Fun House BBQ, at the 29th Street Ballroom at Spider House, 2908 Fruth St. Featuring songwriter Roky Moon performing classics by the Thin White Duke, and sets by Gal Pals, The Wolf, Holy Wave, and Crooked Bangs. On the inside stage, Wil Cope and Christy Hays performing music by Graham Parsons and Emmy Lou Harris, respectively, and Chris Catalena and Friends doing the music of Willie Nelson.
-Country western troubadour Dale Watson plays two sets tonight at The Sahara Lounge, 1413 Webberville Rd. in East Austin.
-Local garage/power pop quartet The Ripe has an early show today, 6 to 8 p.m., at Counter Culture, located at 2337 E. Cesar Chavez.
- A big ol’ 4th of July party at The White Horse, 500 Comal St. Founding Fathers plays at 10 p.m. (you can’t have Independence Day without the Founding Fathers), and Them Duqaines are on the stage at midnight.
Here’s to a safe, happy and music-filled Independence Day. Cheers!
