All of the Republican state senators except one have signed a letter assailing Ted Cruz for his characterization of the Senate’s actions under David Dewhurst, the state’s lieutenant governor.
The two are vying for the Republican nomination for U.S. Senate. KUT’s Emily Donahue talks with Gardner Selby of the Austin American-Statesman’s PolitiFact Texas to examine claims about what Dewhurst has and hasn’t supported. For example:
Ted Cruz is incorrect when he says Dewhurst has never cut a penny from the state budget; he said that earlier this political season. Conversely, we found half-true Dewhurst’s claim that when adjusted for inflation and population growth, state general-revenue spending has decreased 10.7 percent on Dewhurst’s watch. We said it was too simplistic.
