In a radio ad the Club for Growth Action, an anti-tax Washington political action committee, suggests Republican Senate candidate David Dewhurst simply isn’t conservative, and it invokes newspapers as proof. KUT’s Nathan Bernier talks with Gardner Selby of the Austin American-Statesman’s PolitiFact Texas about the claim that every major newspaper in Texas calls Dewhurst a “moderate” and the few news commentaries provided in support.
The commentary says Dewhurst at the time [2007] was considered more moderate than the governor or the House speaker. But the writer also warned against labels in the same piece. He says there’s no question Dewhurst is part of a Republican leadership more conservative than Democratic leaders of yore.
