If you live in Austin, you know that homegrown food giant Whole Foods is often dubbed “Whole Paycheck” because of high prices. But the company wants to change its image. KUT’s Emily Donahue spoke with Vicky Garza, who has this story in the Austin Business Journal.
Vicky Garza:
One of the challenges that they face is that they have higher labor costs than other grocery stores. And that’s because their customers have a lot of questions. They’re very involved and they want the level of service that Whole Foods has been providing.
According to one food-industry expert, its reputation for high prices is unfounded because you can’t compare some of the products they sell. It’s not an apples-to-apples comparison.
