For the first time since January, it is now illegal to burn outdoors county-wide. Travis County Commissioners enacted the ban today on the advice of fire marshal Hershel Lee. The ban does not affect the sale or use of fireworks for the Fourth of July.
But County Commissioner Sarah Eckhart urged the public to celebrate Independence Day safely.
“We would beg folks to celebrate the Fourth of July with bands, light shows, snow cones, but if you can avoid the use of fireworks in this environment in this circumstance, please do,” Eckhart said.
Of course fireworks are already banned inside city limits. And so is outdoor burning without a permit.
