It’s the jagged, dirty blues-rock sounds that keep pulling me in. And local trio The Black Owl Society knows how to jumps all over it.
Featuring drummer Charlie Jones, guitarist Nate Boff, and bassist/lead vocalist Buffalo, The Black Owl Society knows how to throw down a pretty mean roots jam, more toward the darker end of the twelve-bar boogie/rock ‘n’ roll spectrum, leaning a bit more on the rock side but with plenty of dirty blues riffs. While there’s no doubt they get a lot of inspiration from Texas-style blues, their influences are a little broader, a little heavier.
The Black Owl Society is looking forward to their month-long tour up ahead, with stops in Sioux City, IA, Lake Andes, SD and Taos, NM. But before they take off, they’re headlining a show tonight at Antone’s, 213 W. 5th St. The bill includes sets by local bands King Biscuit Blues Revue (featuring Kurt McMahan on harp and guitar, guitarist Jose Alvarez, Trevor Nealon doing keys, bassist Nick Jay and drummer Drew D’Entremont) and Cause in Effect (guitarist Josh Googins, bassist Z Lynch and drummer Spencer Garland).
This is gonna be a good one. Doors open at 8 p.m. Recommended.
