I could hear some collective groans of disappointment as Fourth of July revelers realized the holiday falls smack dab in the middle of the week, on a Wednesday, this year. It doesn’t really accommodate plans for the typical long weekend, but there are a few celebration organizers taking advantage of the weekend prior to the 4th. The one featured on today’s Austin Music Minute is inviting music lovers out to enjoy some great area bands in the great outdoors.
The Red, White & Blue Ball is a music and camping event, specially designed for a more intimate setting, with a very impressive list of local talent on the bill: Wheeler Brothers, Crooks, Shakey Graves, Those Nights, and Hello Wheels on the main stage, starting at sunset; and some late night performances by Henry & The Invisibles and Jimmie Dreams. Not to mention a massive water slide and loads of nighttime fireworks to make the experience complete.
The Red, White & Blue Ball happens this Saturday out at The Ball Farm, located at 119 Redbird Ln. (Dale, TX, 78616), about 25 miles southeast of Downtown Austin. Check the website for directions and a map. A portion of the proceeds at the gate from the event will benefit the Groundwork Music Project, which provides free and low-cost music lessons to preschoolers with limited means.
