The state-run site just reopened on Saturday following repairs for other leaks that were discovered in the ship on June 9. Andy Smith is the manager of the battleship, launched in 1912.
“You’re dealing with 100-year-old ship, 100-year-old steel – it has a lot of issues,” Smith says. “And we know that leaks like this could realistically happen anytime.”
Smith says about 3,000 tons of water flowed into the ship from the latest set of leaks. He says the ship will be closed for repairs through the end of the week at least.
Battleship Texas is the only surviving ship that was in both World War I and II.
