I, your humble Austin Music Minute maven, have been involved with music in one form or another for many years. And I must admit, I still cannot wrap my tiny brain around how some musicians manage to play in several bands. I had tremendous difficulty barely keeping up with one. But that’s how songwriter Kurt McMahan rolls. The man’s got a full plate, and he wouldn’t have it any other way.
McMahan, originally from Montgomery, AL, makes the rounds with not one, not two, but three local bands: Southern soul outfit King Corduroy, honky-tonk band Cactus Fuzz, and the King Biscuit Blues Revue. And chances are good that he’s is busy collaborating with other musicians on several projects.
This evening, you’ll have the chance to see McMahan do a solo set at his Monday night residency show at 8 p.m. at Hotel Vegas, 1500 E. 6th St. Starting out the evening is Los Angeles-based songwriter Jennifer Applequist. It’s a happy hour show, so be sure to get there early. Check it out.
